FAQ
The energy produced by the 550W solar panels can vary due to a lot of factors, such as climate, weather, panel orientation, and so on. To get an estimated energy result, here’s a detailed show:
Energy per day = Panel Power (KW) x Peak Sun Hours(h) x Conversion rate;
So if we get a 550W solar panel, 4 hours of peak sunlight, and 0.8 conversion rate, then the energy power would be:
550/1000(kW) x 4 (h) x 0.8 = 1.76 kWh.
And this result is for your reference only.
A 550W solar panel produces around 45.83 amps at 12 volts or 11.46 amps at 48 volts. The actual amp of 550W modules varies due to the whole system’s voltage and the peak sunlight the panel receives.
Most 550W solar panels efficiency are between 22% and 22.5%, depending on manufacturers, brands.
For example, we list the efficiency of different models below for your reference.
| Model | Efficiency |
| JKM550M-72HL4 550W | 21.29% |
| Longi LR5-72HBD 550W | 21.30% |
| Longi LR5-72HPH 550W | 21.30% |
| Trina TSM-DE19 550W | 21% |
| Canadian HiKu6 550W | 21.50% |
| Risen RSM110-8 550W | 21% |

- The dimensions of Jinko JKM72HL4 550W solar panels are 2278 x 1134 x 30 mm;

The number of 550W solar panels needed for a 5kw inverter depends on the MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) voltage and current limits. You can check the datasheet of the 5kw inverter, and the datasheet of the panels.
Check the main parameters on the 5KW inverter(DC side):
- Max DC input voltage
- MPPT voltage range
- Number of MPPTs
- Max input current per MPPT and max short-circuit current per MPPT
- Max DC power
- DC/AC ratio
Check the main parameters on the 550W solar panels:
- Vmp/Imp, Voc/Isc
- Max system voltage, series fuse rating
How to match them? Examples shown below:
- Inverter: 2×MPPT, MPPT 120–500 V, Max DC 1000 V, Max input ≈15 A/MPPT.
- Module 550 W: Vmp ≈ 41 V, Voc ≈ 49 V, Imp ≈ 13 A, Isc ≈ 14 A, temp-coeffs ≈ Vmp −0.30%/°C, Voc −0.28%/°C.
Site: T_cold = −10 °C, hot cell ≈ 65 °C.
Target DC size (choose DC/AC):
Pick 1.3 →DC ≈ 5 × 1.3 = 6.5 kWdc→ Panels≈ 6.5 ÷ 0.55 = 11.8 → **12 pcs**.Series count by voltage (cold Voc + MPPT window):
Cold Voc per module:49 × [1 + 0.0028 × (25 − (−10))] ≈ **53.8 V**.
6 in series (6S):
6 × 53.8 = **322.8 V** < 1000 V
Hot Vmp per module:41 × [1 − 0.003 × (65 − 25)] ≈ **36.1 V**; Cool Vmp ≈41 × [1 + 0.003 × (25 − 0)] ≈ **44.1 V**.6S Vmp (hot→cool):
216.6–264.6 V→ inside 120–500 V
Current & per-MPPT power:
Current (1 string/MPPT):
Imp ≈ **13 A**≤ 15 A (avoid paralleling unless your MPPT allows >26 A).Power per MPPT:
6 × 0.55 = **3.3 kW**(check against your inverter’s per-MPPT DC limit—typically OK).
Result (default build): 12 panels = 2 MPPT × 1 string of 6S → 6.6 kWdc on a 5 kW inverter (DC/AC ≈ 1.32).
If you want higher DC/AC (~1.5):
Use 14 panels = 2 × 7S → 7.7 kWdc (1.54 DC/AC); voltage/current still passes with the above numbers, but confirm the inverter’s per-MPPT DC power limit before locking the BOM.
